A Data plate mystery...

April 28, 2000

Here are the data Bantam plates (you can see the Checker data plate here) As you can see, there is a Caution plate and the regular Bantam data plate...(computer enhanced for your viewing pleasure)...

And here is what the stamped numbers indicate...one big mistake was that I mistook the 8 for a 3...so that places the car that had this plate in Butler only about two weeks before one of the Checker cars turns up at Holabird...

However...I don't know what to make of this! On the reverse of the plates, in typical cursive handwriting of the era, we see that the plates have apparently {?} at some point been removed? we are reasonably sure that the three Checker Bantams were disassembled and reassembled..at least once...but this detail is really interesting. They were taken off...of one of the cars...and put back on (but on the proper car?) This car has never really been "restored" where it would matter if it even had data plates...but this number matches the checker under the hood, so I guess {?} I can assume it went with the car...or can I? Ideas?
