Description Originally bred in England to attack bulls for public entertainment, the Bulldog was at first a ferocious and fairly mean-tempered breed. Bull baiting was made illegal in England in 1835, but the tremendous courage, determined endurance, and preference for head-on attack endeared the breed to the British, who adopted it as their national dog, and began breeding out its aggressively mean temperament. Today's Bulldog is an affectionate, gentle, and dependable pet, and a courageous, reliable guard dog. SIZE: 1"x1" |
