Description Art History. The famous lighthouse on the dunes of the North Carolina coast. Some light or other has been there since 1798, but the 193 foot brick tall tower we see today was built in 1879 and for a while was the loftiest of its kind in the world (but still apparently impossible for mariners to see until it was too late). It has fallen apart and been rebuilt, significantly by the CCC and WPA. SIZE: .5"X1.75" |
