Description This is a very beautiful pin, admittedly with a bit of an edge to it. The prey is a tarantula, a desert hunter itself about the size of a child's hand. The wasp is about an inch and a half long with a four inch wingspan and a powerful stinger. When you hear one of these girls humming along on a hot summer afternoon you will often hear within the deep thrum a mysterious clicking or ticking sound. The metallic blue black of the body, to me, is one of the most beautiful colors in nature, and combined with the complimentary reddish orange wings, her size and speed, these insects are breathtakingly wonderful animals.
