You will note I have also done the pins in the old (pre-photography) painting style, which in itself is a visual hint that we are dealing with a steed from the days of yore. Actually this "flying" posture (both front hooves forward, both rear ones backward) has been used effectively by artists throughout time and in a variety of diverse cultures. The eye simply could not pick up the nuances of the horses gait and it was not really until Muybridge that the mystery was revealed.
