A humpback whale's tail, or flukes, can span as much as eighteen feet and each whale's tail has distinct markings.
Distinguished by very long pectoral fins and a characteristic arched back on diving. Humpbacks feed in polar regions of both hemispheres and migrate to the tropics to mate and calve. An average diet might require one ton daily of various fish such as herring, smelt, capelin, sardines, cod, or squid which are often captured by the whale in a net of bubbles it creates to surround its prey.
