We breathe about 12 times a minute.
The chemical fuel (from food) in the blood stream must be combined with oxygen to provide energy and this burning process produces carbon dioxide which must be removed. The red blood cells perform both delivery of oxygen and removal of CO2 by exchanging them in tiny capillaries surrounding small sacs in the lungs called alveoli. We breathe about 12 times a minute to provide fresh supplies of oxygen. When more oxygen is needed we breathe faster and deeper. SIZE: 1"X1.25"
