Iroquois was the first American bred horse to win the Derby (in England, not Kentucky) in 1881, thus marking the coming of age of the American Thoroughbred. Iroquois was bred at Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, Tennessee which is still preserved as a historic site and Museum, and which advertises itself as the "...home of Iroquois, until 1953, the only American-bred winner of the English Derby (1881)" SIZE: 2.25"x1"
