| "Art history" is a little joke term we use around here to indicate to a customer that one of our designs has been discontinued. At least we thought it was a joke until the resale market on the likes of eBay revealed that the joke was on us. One such early $5 pin sold for $300.The problem is simple. Even though our enamels are hand fashioned, to set up a production run we have to see where we can move at least 500 of them. As much as I love some of them (and, all my favorite pins lead the lowest sales list!) I am just not going to live long enough to break even at two or three sales a year or even ten or twenty. The caravan moves on. In some ways it's like the pop music business. You can have a hit but try as you might to repeat the success by emulating it, it doesn’t work. But take heart. These designs are still out there. If we are out of stock it means there are hundreds of them floating around in the pin-o-sphere!
