Description Able to stretch to accomodate large meals. An organ in the digestive tract between the esophagus and the small intestine which aids in breaking down food for later stages of digestion. In humans an empty stomach is only about 8" long but is able to stretch to accomodate large meals. Secreting hydrochloric acid it forms the enzyme pepsin and together they digest meat and other proteins and at the same time kill some unwanted bacterium. Also available as a diagram pin.
