Hey, Willys and Ford made good jeeps. Relax.
Okay, this is just an opinion. Maybe the Willys and Fords are no good :~). Just kidding. But, many people think that just because Bantam invented the jeep that the products of the other companies are there-by no good, or are in someway diminished. This is silly.
There is no question that the jeeps that developed eventually in WWII were one of if not the most effective and influential weapon of the war. Indeed, had the Bantam jeep been developed in the same way it too would have been just as good. The Bantam started out with the original concept that the Army wanted small and light and that is what they delivered. What evoloved was considerably heavier than the Bantam concept which had been developed with the Using Arms. Whether the extra weight and power of the standardized vehicle was justified or not is hard to tell. Since the United States was resource rich most of our weapons tended to be far more robust that the opponents, not to mention far more numerous. Whether the constantly increasing weight limits allowed by the QMC over the adamant objections of the Using arms should be seen as a brilliant developmental decision or outright actionable corruption remains to be seen.
Help me out here. Can you point me to FACTS which would change this admittedly arbitrary percentage? Let's hear it.
